ALL packages come standard with -
Free .com, .net, or .org domain-name, and gemnetworks.com subdomain.

You are entitled to a free .com, .net or .org domain name when purchasing a year's worth of hosting of any package, which gemNetworks will register on your behalf.
You can take advantage of the offer at any time, so you're not forced to choose a domain-name when signing-up.

Free multi-domain hosting!

Host as many domains as you like from your webspace.

gemNetworks provide an administration website for members, which has the ability to add virtual webservers to your account. Each of your webservers can host a domain, or many domains, from it's own directory anywhere in your webspace.

Example: You could register the domains - mydomain.com, mydomain.co.uk, itsmydomain.com, create a directory in your webspace called '/www/mydomain', and create a webserver to host all the domains from the same folder. Or perhaps you want three seperate webservers, each with their own logs of hits, so you can determine how many visitors you have for each domain - no problem, create three webservers, one for each domain, and set the root folder to the same '/www/mydomain'.
This can be done at any time, however often is needed, and takes less than a minute for the changes to take effect.

Free 1000 Email accounts (POP3, IMAP and webmail) and forwarding for any domains in your account.

It's quick and easy to modify email accounts with the member's control panel. Changes are instant. Your mail boxes share the same disk space as your files, so if you purchase the 1 GB package, use 500MB for websites, you have 500MB available for mailboxes.
You can create forwarders to make aliases for your mailboxes on the same domain, or from other domains in your account. For example, you could have sales@example.com, info@otherdomain.com, both forward messages into a bob@mydomain.com mailbox, which can be on gemNetworks or an external server.
Wildcard forwarders can be created to forward a message to any email address at a domain, to another domain or email address.
Each mailbox you create can be accessed with POP3, IMAP or via webmail.

Q: What happens to new messages if I run out of disk space?
A: The control panel offers you the ability to forward messages to another address, on a per-account, per-domain, or a per-user basis. If you do not wish to forward the message, an error will be returned to the sender and the message will be bounced back.

Free 1000 FTP virtual accounts.

This allows you to create up to 1000 FTP accounts, with a username and password different to your main account username and password (or even using the same username, but a different password), and lock that account to a certain directory in your account, so that anyone using that FTP account will only see the contents of that folder, and not even know where abouts in your account it is located.
This can be useful for allowing people to modify only certain websites in your account, but keep the others hidden and protected.

Full CGI support (PHP 5, Perl, Python and SSI)

CGI scripts allow you to generate webpages and content dynamically based on visitor's input. A number of libraries and services are available to assist your scripts, eg MySQL for database-driven websites, ImageMagick and GD libraries for image creation and processing, and much more.
Our webservers use suexec for CGI's, which means that your scripts are executed with the permissions you'd have if you logged into the server and executed it manually. This allows you access to your files, and not to anyone else's; and conversely, protects your files from other user's scripts. This is in contrast to some webhosting companies who run CGI's as the webserver user, at a slight performance gain, but completely insecurely.

Extensive daily webstats with graphs, and access to your LIVE server logs.

Complete webstats are built every day at midnight. A page with the current month's summary is generated, which contains the number of visits, pages, hits, and bytes transferred per day. A summary for the hours of the day and days of the week, a list of countries and hosts accessing your site, their duration of visits. Hits, percentage, and total byte counts for each type of file on your site. The most frequently viewed pages, the operating systems and browser types of your visitors, where they came from to visit your site, and what search strings they used (if coming from a search engine).

The server logs are writen on a per-webserver basis into their own directories, using the primary domain-name of the webserver. They are written in realtime and are split by day. At the end of each day, the previous day's log is compressed (bzip2) to save space in your account. The raw logs can be processed by yourself, if desired, by any application which can parse W3C-style logs.

Free MySQL database.

A MySQL database is included with all hosting accounts, which shares the same diskspace as your files. MySQL is available from PHP, PERL and all other CGI scripts. If your MySQL quota is exceeded, SQL create/insert/update commands will be denied until you free enough space.
phpMyAdmin is provided for web-based administration, the MySQL console client is available via shell, and direct network access to the MySQL server is available by tunneling over SSH.

Many applications can share your MySQL database by each using their own table prefix. (This is an option available in most CGI scripts such as forums, blogs, etc)

Full UNIX shell access (SSH)

Shell access is provided to your files via SSH (Secure Shell Protocol). A free SSH client called PuTTY is available at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/.

Full DNS control

Ability to create any DNS records for your domain, eg subdomains which resolve to other servers.

An example would be - you can have www.yourdomain.com point to your gemNetworks webspace, and have somethingelse.yourdomain.com point to an entirely different server, or vice-versa.

Our DNS servers also support dynamic updates, so you can have somehost.yourdomain.com always point to your IP on your dynamic-IP dialup/ADSL/cable-modem at home, if you wanted to run servers from your home connection, for example.

Full IPv6 connectivity - ready for the next-generation internet.

All services and customer webservers are available right now over IPv6 protocol via a 100Mbit/sec connection to a local PoP (<10ms) peered with the largest IPv6 networks (Sprint, Chello, ISC, Global Crossing, HE).
Customers can be routed an IPv6 global 64bit prefix via a tunnel on request.

No setup fees!

Exactly what it says! You simple pay in advance either monthly or yearly, there are no charges to create your account and no charges if you decide to stop using gemNetworks.
